International
The Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Program has been incredibly well- received in nations outside the United States. Because it focuses on an Empowerment Model of Prevention, it is particularly adaptable for community-based work. The extensive training provided by the International Center for Assault Prevention prepares teams to go into communities, using schools as the primary vehicle. Teachers and other school staff learn to recognize abuse and neglect and understand the steps that are necessary to protect and empower their students. Parent workshops offer parents an opportunity to understand the many facets of child abuse and neglect and to educate them on ways they can help to make their children less vulnerable to assault. Children, in every culture and country, deserve to be “Safe, Strong & Free”. Their workshops teach them strategies to keep safe and offer information on how they can feel less isolated and more empowered.
More than a dozen countries outside the United States have trained in the Child Assault Prevention Program. Although some have suffered from lack of funding, many continue to offer workshops using special grants and community funding sources. The following countries are members of ICAP.
