Image Release Note 0019: NCAP Upload

Summary
This release comprises late 20th-century aerial imagery of the United Kingdom and Ireland from private survey firms. It represents a strategic expansion of the Air Photo Finder imagery, offering extensive UK coverage, much of which is in colour, reflecting the era’s growing reliance on aerial surveys for infrastructure planning, environmental monitoring, and research.
The imagery spans England, Scotland and the Channel Islands, with detailed views of coastal zones (e.g. the Lincolnshire and Kent coasts and significant coverage of Scottish coasts) and urban centres like Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle. Inland regions such as Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Somerset (including Glastonbury Festival in full swing in 2000) are also included. Ireland is represented by coverage of Dublin.
The inclusion of beach monitoring and coastal surveys highlights the environmental focus of this release, while traffic and infrastructure studies (e.g. the M25, Heathrow Airport, the A64 between York and Malton) underscore its planning utility. These two themes combine with the inclusion of surveys relating to long-distance footpaths such as the South Downs Way.
