A historic black and white vertical aerial photo of a bombed city. Numerous roofless houses and craters are visible. To the left of the image are trains in some railway sidings. To the right are boats on a canal.

Summary

This batch release features digitised Second World War aerial imagery sourced from the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), delivered through the NCAP-NARA partnership. The collection spans the years 1942 to 1945 and places particular emphasis on coverage of France and Germany, reflecting key strategic areas during the conflict.

Geographical coverage across Europe is extensive, with notable imagery of Belgium and the Netherlands in the west, and Czechia and Poland in the east. Beyond Europe, the batch includes limited but valuable coverage of China and the Philippines.

A significant addition in this release is the introduction of several small sorties from the Pacific Theatre, offering imagery of various islands across Micronesia. These additions broaden the scope of the collection and enhance its relevance for global wartime research.
