Reinterpreting the Directorate of Overseas Surveys Talk and Tour

Reinterpreting the Directorate of Overseas Surveys
In March this year, the exhibition ‘Reinterpreting the Directorate of Overseas Surveys’ (DOS) opened at the University of St Andrews. The exhibition was curated by Vivian Myron, Metadata Coordinator at the National Collection of Aerial Photography (NCAP), and showcases a selection of images from the DOS collection, examining their historic and current contexts.
Tour and Talk
To provide further depth to the exhibition, Vivian and Rachel Nordstrom (NCAP Operations Manager) are delivering an event on Thursday 10 July at the NCAP facility in Edinburgh.
The event will start with a tour (limited to 15 people) of the state-of-the art building where NCAP staff work to preserve, digitise and geolocate the 30 million images held across the wider collection and those of our partners.
The tour will be followed by a talk – delivered both in-person and online – during which Vivian and Rachel will delve deeper into the DOS collection. They will look into the history of its creation, how it came to NCAP and its context today. They will also introduce the innovative projects and partnerships NCAP is helping to deliver to unlock the great potential this collection has for interdisciplinary research and study.
