Why Does Scale Matter?
One of the most common questions we receive is why some aerial photographs appear sharper or contain more visible detail than others.
While scanning resolution plays an important role, the amount of detail visible in an image is determined by the scale at which the photograph was originally captured.
What is Scale?
Image scale describes the relationship between distances measured on an aerial photograph and distances measured on the ground.
For example: 1:10,000 Scale
- 1cm measured on the photograph represents 10,000 cm (100 metres) on the ground.
Generally speaking:
- Larger scales show more detail.
- Smaller scales show a larger area but less detail.
